A warm welcome to the BearPark

Hibernation begins

In the Bear Park, it’s the start of the big sleep. Finn, Björk and Ursina are getting ready for winter. At our latitude, brown bears hibernate for 3 to 4 months. They withdraw into their burrows and stop eating and drinking.

Brown bears in the wild have to have enough meat on their bones to see them safely through the winter, and all three well-fed bears in the Bear Park meet this criteria. At the moment they are eating mostly seasonal sweet fruits, nuts and meat.
